The center was commenced in 1979 by Jock Leslie-Melville, a Kenyan citizen from Britain, and his American wife, Betty Leslie-Melville. The center was built to conserve Rothschild Giraffe whose numbers were dwindling due to loss of habitat in western Kenya.
At the time when the two answered the call of nature, there were not more than 130 Rothschild Giraffes in Kenya. Today, thanks to their effort, there are more than 300 Rothschild Giraffe. The center has become popular as one of the best nature education center in the world.
At the Giraffe Center, you will get up close with these tall boys.
You will pet, hand-feed, and get a chance to kiss a tall, tall friend. A trip to this wildlife haven is one you will remember for a long time. You will also be able to join the course by donating directly to the centre (Donating is optional)
There is also a curio shop, run by this non-profit organization, where you can shop for souvenirs.
•After giraffe center you will visit David Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage at 11am to 12pm.
Your African safari tours for begin with a 60 minutes visit to the elephant orphanage. The center rescues young elephants and rhinos, primarily victims of poaching and nature, and takes care of them.
They are later reintegrated with their cousins in the Tsavo National Park and Mwea National Park once they get strong and healthy. The orphanage offers you the one of a kind opportunity to not only interact with these beautiful creatures but also learn how evil poaching is.
It takes you through an emotional rollercoaster. One minute you marvel at the mind-blowing sights of the caregivers feeding the elephants; the next, you’re all emotional from the sad tales of how the chubby babies got to the orphanage in the first place.
Seeing the little lovelies drink their milk, take baths, and play in the mud will melt your heart into a puddle. It’s the best safari experience.
Afterwards you will head for Lunch at the enchanting Carnivore Restaurant. The restaurant is known for meats. You can take pork, rump of beef, leg of lamb, spare ribs, rack of lamb, sirloin, ostrich, and crocodile meat.
The meat is roasted in a traditional Maasai sword over a charcoal pit at the restaurant entrance. There is a veg diet for the vegetarian, and it is an-all-you can eat event. The food spots come when you wave the white flag.

There is just one “Crescent Island Game Park” and it is located on Lake Naivasha, Kenya in the Great Rift Valley. There are more animals per acre than any other Kenyan Park, hence many film companies have been to the Island to film the herds of Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra and Gazelle.
They are not fenced in, which allows the wildlife on the mainland to come in as they lose their habitat to development and the ever increasing population. Hippo graze all over us at night then sleep under the acacia or rest in the water by day. The giraffe who were born on the Island return to give birth; sometimes you see three generations at a time. Hyena come to hunt at night but are not resident on the island, the many python that live here can be seen occasionally with a kill. Groups of Buffalo come and go but they are always monitored.
From the top of the hill there is a 360 degree view across the Lake from Longonot to Hell’s Gate to the Mau Escarpment to Eburu and onto the Aberdares.
